Today the trees cover only 2% of what they did before British rule, but there is a movement now to reforest the Emerald Isle. For trees are the true gems and treasures of this sacred land. 

Queen Elizabeth I, although a sovereign & powerful Queen, who did many good things, was threatened by the wild spirit of Ireland. Today, we come together to heal and alchemize the wounds of the past in sacred space. We come together to celebrate the wild heart of Ireland, its legends & stories, as well as the magic of the land itself. 

But as all of us know, that spirit never died.

In the year 1560 Queen Elizabeth I decreed that all the forests in Ireland be cut down. This was during British Colonization and there was a saying at the time: “the Irish will never be tamed while the leaves are on the trees.” The English believed so long as there was untamed wilderness in Ireland, the people would never surrender, so a decision was made to cut down the trees, in efforts to destroy their wild hearts and spirit.
